Dr. hab. Marek Rutkowski, Professor at the University of Physical Culture in Kraków (AKF), is a graduate of the Faculty of Humanities at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, where he obtained his Master’s degree in 1985, a doctoral degree (PhD) in 1995, and habilitation  in 2005 in the field of history, specializing in modern history. He has been employed at the University of Physical Education (now University of Physical Culture) since 2021. His scholarly contributions include monographs addressing legal-state relations, the multifaceted functioning of states under foreign domination (with a focus on the Kingdom of Poland during the partitions time), and the history of logistics and transport. Additionally, he is the author of academic textbooks in the field of economic history and approximately 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles published in academic journals and edited volumes.

Associate Professor Rutkowski has co-organized 10 academic conferences and actively participated in over 40 other scholarly conference events. His research interests span a broad spectrum of historical and socio-cultural inquiries, including: the historical evolution of architecture and art in Europe and the Middle East; cultural achievements as catalysts for civilizational development; travel trends (including tourism) from antiquity to the present day; historical transport and logistics systems globally and in Poland; the impact of population migrations on the development of tourism throughout past centuries; the material and cultural evolution of health resorts over time; the sacred aspects of healing practices; the history of tourism-related organizations; the political, social, and economic conditions influencing the survival of the Polish nation in 19th century (during  partitions); and the role of historical-economic analysis in understanding societal transformations in the perception of leisure time.

This comprehensive academic profile reflects his interdisciplinary engagement with themes bridging history, culture, economics, and the dynamics of human mobility and institutional development.
