prof. dr hab. Łukasz Kryst

Anthropologist, auxologist and biologist, born in 1980 in Częstochowa. In 2004, he completed his master's degree in biology (specialisation: anthropology) at the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences of the Jagiellonian University. In the same year, he began doctoral studies at the above-mentioned Faculty, which he completed in 2009 with a thesis on intergenerational changes in the dimensions of the human head. Since 2009, he has been employed at the Department of Anthropology, B. Czech University of Physical Education in Kraków, initially as an assistant professor, in 2018 as a professor at the university, and in 2025 as full professor. In 2017, he obtained his habilitation on the basis of his scientific achievement entitled: ‘Overweight and obesity among children and adolescents in the aspect of intergenerational changes in body dimensions and physical activity and fitness’. In 2025 he was subsequently given the title of full professor.

He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications, nearly 80 of which have been published in journals with international reach. He has also participated in dozens of scientific conferences, both nationally and internationally, presenting papers, including in Denmark, Spain, Lithuania, Croatia, Russia, India and Portugal. Principal investigator or contractor of research projects funded by the university as well as external sources. Collaborates with several research centres in the world, including Italy, UK and India. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Polish Anthropological Society and is the President of the Krakow branch of the Society. He is a member of international organisations: European Anthropological Association (EAA) and International Society for the Study of Human Growth and Clinical Auxology (ISGA). In addition, he is also a member of the Committee on Rehabilitation, Physical Culture and Social Integration of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

His main research interests include the issue of broadly defined secular trends, especially changes in traits related to body composition. In addition, his interests are related to the problem of overweight and obesity, fitness and physical activity, factors of human development, sexual maturation, sexual dimorphism and the structure and body composition of athletes. Future research projects are possible within these topics (but not only).
